Hey Everyone!!!
I just started working toward my Bachelor’s Degree this semester for the first time in 4 years. As you can probably already guess, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed after being out of school for that long. I wasn’t nervous but I was curious to see how I would do. I started off on the right foot. One of the first classes I took was “Skills For Success.” (ASP 100) This course was exactly what I needed. The course went over everything that I needed to get my mind right for college.
The course started by “Mapping my Success.” I was asked to write down my short term and long term goals. By getting my goals thought out and written down I created a solid path for me to follow. The next part of the class asked the students to each find a Resource that would help us become more successful student. I learned about all kinds of websites that would help me smooth out the little bumps along the way. The course also covered Financial Management. I admit, finances, have never been my strong suit. This course helped me make a plan, and reminded me of some very important tips. For example, when you have a credit card stow it away at the bottom of a drawer. My instructor also covered Time Management. Let’s face it, if I were a super hero, my name would be “Captain Procrastinator.” Seriously, I can never get things done in a timely stress free manner. I learned that by planning my assignments and other tasks, I can actually free up a lot of time, and have more options instead of being trapped by my homework. Decision Making and Problem solving was another important topic that I hadn’t given much thought. I learned that when you know yourself and you have solid values, decision making and problem solving become easier. I also learned about the different learning strategies that there are. I now know that I am a kinesthetic learner and what my strengths and weaknesses are. And what would a “Skills for Success” course be without the School Basics. We went over note taking, reading skills, writing, and public speaking.
All in all, this course has put everything in a whole now perspective for me. I have taken the time to learn about myself and apply these fundamentals to my life. I believe that I will become a more successful student and an overall successful person in my life. I encourage all to take this course and take the time to make life better
